Thank you to all of you who responded to our survey last month. The information has proved invaluable for planning our next season. Here are some of the key insights we gained from the survey.
While there were a number of crews interested in a winter regatta, there wasn’t enough interest for us to run our own winter regatta at an acceptable cost. We have recently heard from the RPAYC that they are looking at running a winter one design regatta on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of July 2014, so we’ll pass on details of this as we get them to hand.
Just about everyone wants a similar number of mini-regattas to the number we had this season, and most people would like the remaining races to have a separate Yngling start. The first preference responses were:
- Similar number of mini-regattas to current season with remaining Saturday races having a separate Yngling start - 47.83% - 11 responses
- Similar number of mini-regattas to current season with remaining Saturday races starting with Division 4 - 21.74% - 5 responses
- Similar to the 2013/2014 season - 14 mini-regattas, 10 "normal" Saturday races with a separate Yngling start and 5 Saturday races starting with Division 4 - 13.04% - 3 responses
- More mini-regattas, but with some or all of the mini-regattas shared with the Dragons and Etchells (separate start times, but same start and finish line) - 13.04% - 3 responses
- Fewer mini-regattas and more "normal" Saturday races with a separate Yngling start - 4.35% - 1 response
Most people indicated that they were planning on racing at least a few times each month. I think we’ve all enjoyed the increased level of competition this season just past and it is good to see that this is looking like it will continue.

Of the other activities that we proposed, there were three items that people were particularly interested in: regattas at other clubs, race training days and non-sailing social events. We’re looking to build each of these into the calendar of events for the coming season.

On the communication preferences question, there was a clear preference for regular email communications and we will focus on increasing our use of this communication mechanism. While this was the most universally desired communication preference, there still remains a desire for our other communication mechanisms, including Facebook, the AIYA website, How Where When and Why, and the general meetings and so we will continue to provide each of these.

Thank you all again for your feedback and the commentary that you provided.
